Company Overview
AOB Invest GmbH is a Munich-based single-family office pursuing a broad, endowment-style investment strategy across private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, listed equities, commodities, real estate, and direct investments. The office is simultaneously building a dedicated late-stage investment track with potential to broaden beyond the family office itself over time.
The environment is lean, entrepreneurial, and international. We operate with high standards, low bureaucracy, and a strong bias toward ownership and execution. A significant part of the platform is still being built - therefore we are looking for the right candidate to take ownership in this role.
Role Overview
The Investment Manager is a core member of the investment team, responsible for the full investment lifecycle - from strategy development and opportunity sourcing through due diligence, execution, and ongoing portfolio oversight. The role requires genuine range across public and private markets, fund investments and direct deals, portfolio construction and process buildout. The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of independence, bring structured thinking to complex investment questions, and translate analysis into clear recommendations for the Managing Director. This is a role for someone who combines investment judgment with a builder's mentality and who is comfortable both shaping long-term strategy and executing within an environment that is entrepreneurial, fast-moving, and not fully pre-structured.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Strategy
- Support the development and continuous refinement of the overall investment strategy, across asset classes, geographies, and time horizons, and translate strategic considerations into structured, decision-ready materials for management
- Conduct deep-dive research and market analysis on new and existing asset classes, including venture investments (mostly direct), public equities, hedge funds, private equity, real estate (direct), infrastructure funds, commodities, to build a differentiated and fact-based investment view
- Evaluate portfolio construction choices across liquidity, correlation, allocation targets, and commitment pacing; develop clear recommendations with scenario analysis and risk considerations
- Prepare well-structured investment proposals, IC decision templates, and management summaries that enable fast, informed decision-makin
Sourcing, Due Diligence, Execution & Portfolio Oversight
- Actively source and screen investment opportunities across our entire investment universe
- Lead or support commercial, financial, and strategic due diligence, including financial modelling, business model assessment, competitive positioning, financing structures, fund terms, and transaction logic
- Coordinate with external advisors (legal, tax, structuring) and own the integration of their input into internal diligence files and decision documents; manage execution from initial screening through closing
- Monitor existing investments across the portfolio: track performance, capital calls, distributions, and thesis adherence; flag material developments and prepare structured update materials for the Managing Director
- Own public markets portfolio work: screener and optimizer development, monthly rebalancing, and daily/weekly performance reporting
- Investment Infrastructure & Process Improvement
- Build and continuously upgrade the investment infrastructure: screening frameworks, diligence checklists by asset class, tax diligence playbooks, pipeline management (Affinity), and portfolio reporting routines (Qplix/Addepar)
- Drive the setup and adoption of tools that make investment workflows more efficient, transparent, and repeatable — including AI-based solutions for research, documentation, and reporting
Late-Stage Investment Track Buildout
- Support the continued development of the family office's late-stage direct investment strategy — from defining the investment thesis and target profile to building a repeatable sourcing and evaluation process
- Develop and maintain a structured pipeline of late-stage opportunities; support in establishment of relationships with founders, co-investors, and intermediaries relevant to this strategy
- Build the analytical and institutional foundation required for this track: evaluation frameworks, deal scoring, diligence standards, and decision documentation tailored to late-stage transactions
- Help assess and prepare reporting standards, process quality, and investment materials consistent with institutional expectations
Candidate Profile
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in investing, transaction execution, or analytical roles within high-performance environments such as a sophisticated family office, private equity or venture capital firm, hedge fund, asset manager, investment bank, transaction advisory practice, or leading strategy consultancy.
- Breadth across asset classes and across the investment process, with proven ability to assess opportunities rigorously, lead execution, and operate effectively in a lean, entrepreneurial setting.
- Proven track record of evaluating investment opportunities, building analytical materials, and leading diligence and execution
- Outstanding academic background in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or Mathematics
- Excellent financial modelling skills and a strong grasp of business models, market structures, and value creation drivers
- Very strong understanding of financing structures, capital structures, fund mechanics, and transaction logic
- Fluency across asset classes, both liquid and illiquid, without retreating into a single product lane
- High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; strong AI fluency and the practical ability to use it to improve speed, quality, and repeatability in investment workflows
- Clear, mature communication style with the ability to synthesize complexity into high-quality internal materials
- English: Fluent, written and spoken, with full confidence in international professional settings
- German: Fluent, written and spoken
- Highly ambitious and performance-oriented, with genuine intellectual curiosity across markets and asset classes. Entrepreneurial and hands-on, willing to execute what the role requires. Loyal, discreet, and trustworthy, with the judgment to operate in a confidential environment. Commercially minded and numerically strong, without losing sight of the bigger picture. Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of creating structure where minimal yet exists.
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to join a highly selective, entrepreneurial single-family office in a role with real breadth and influence. The Investment Manager will not be confined to one strategy or one process lane. The role offers cross-asset investing, proximity to decision-making, and direct ownership of how the investment platform is built, including the continued development of a late-stage investment capability with potential for external relevance.
The Investment Manager reports directly to the Managing Director and works in close coordination with the broader internal platform, including finance and operations. The role involves regular engagement with external managers, founders, advisors, banks and peer family offices across jurisdictions.
